About Farasha

The physicals
My name:

Emma, meaning energetic. Lauren, meaning of the Laurel, peaceful

Nicknames:

Em - some friends close to me. Emily - people who can't remember my name. Most of the time I don't even bother to correct them.

Birthdate:

June 06, 1989. Makes me a Gemini and a Snake.

Where I was born:

Nacogdoches, TX. A college town which is so small that half the people in Texas don't even know where it is. "Somewhere between Dallas and Houston" seems to be the conclusion.

Where I live now:

Garden City, NY. A wealthy college town on Long Island, about ten minutes outside of Queens. It takes me twenty minutes by train to get into NYC.

Physically:

I stand about 5'7" without heels on. Brown hair, brown eyes with some splotches of muddy green. Average weight, around 125-130 depending on how big of a lie I want to tell (I'm really around 135). I'm right-handed and out of shape.

Favorite...
Color:

Violet, especially when combined with silver. Vibrant aqua blues. Rich, jewel-toned reds.

Band:

Peter Gabriel is my favorite singer/songwriter ever. Aside from him - Pink Floyd, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Death Cab for Cutie, Depeche Mode

TV Show:

House, Supernatural and True Blood are my three shows. I don't actually watch anything else.

Movie:

I, Robot is one that I will watch whenever possible. Also, The Usual Suspects, Field of Dreams, Stardust, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the original Star Wars trilogy.

Cartoon/Anime:

Cowboy Bebop. Also BLEACH, Full Metal Alchemist, Wolf's Rain and Ouran Host Club.

Food:

Roast beef. I am indeed a carnivore. My "snack food" is a roll of lunchmeat in the fridge.

Ice Cream:

Blue Bell's Mardi Gras King Cake ice cream.

Cereal:

Corn flakes. For real. I don't like sugary cereal.

Tea:

Honey chamomile tea. I will drink it all the time.

Alcoholic beverage:

Well, if I'm drinking mixers, I prefer a margarita. But if I have my druthers, I'd rather just have a straight tequila shot to sip on. No salt, no lime.

Life
My Family:

I have a family that reaches much farther than blood. I have a family of people who have taken care of me, who have helped me up when I was down, who are just as close to me as my parents. I'm best friends with my mom (and we fight like it too), I think my dad is one of the wisest men alive, and my younger brother has the potential to be so much greater than he is. But that's just my blood family. I have three more brothers and two sisters through life, a godmother I love dearly, so many "aunts" and "uncles" I can't even count anymore... and others that walk in and out of our lives.

The Animals:

I have one dog still among the living, Spot the Dalmatian. We unfortunately lost Joey the Mutt in spring of '07, and Spot is looking like he won't be long for this world. I'm also owned by two cats, Aja the Raging Bitch and Onyx the Pansy Fraidy-Cat. I lost my third cat, Bayan, about four years ago.

The Job:

Or lack of one, right now. I'm subsisting on allowance funds and commissions, which are few and far between.

The Electronics:

My laptop's name is Ananda, my jump drive's name is Fox, my phone's name is You Stupid Fucking Phone, the 8GB memory stick that came with it is named Thumbelina and my tablet's name is Wizard.

The Vehical:

When I'm home in Texas I drive a '99 Mistubishi Montero nicknamed "Old Girl". It's got over 200k miles on it, the shocks are mushy, some of the buttons are falling off, the light behind the A/C console doesn't work, my antenna won't retract, you have to really jiggle it if you want it in 4-wheel drive and it leaks oil. But it's my baby, and I love it.

The School:

Adelphi University, graduation in '11, in an extra year for my MFA. Major in Creative Writing, minor in Secondary Education and Technical Theater.

The Ink:

I have two tattoos currently. A cervical cancer awareness ribbon on the inside of my right wrist and a Texas flag wrapped around a yellow rose on the back of my right hip. I'm saving up for the other ones.

The Vices:

I cuss like a sailor or worse than, I party hard (because I work hard), I keep trying to quit smoking but it never seems to stick and I sometimes partake in a little bit of green.

The Stuff I Can Do:

I can use power tools without flinching. I can drape a dress in a day. I can keep my head cool in a crisis. I can knock a grown man out with a kick to the jaw. I can play my guitar. I can get to level 30 on Galaga. I can go out, party like a fiend and still make it to my 10am class on time. I can speak enough Spanish to carry on a short conversation.

The Stuff I Can't Do:

I can't keep simple arithmetic straight in my head. I can't keep a horizontal surface in my room clean. I can't remember to update anything online without prompting. I can't run farther than a few dozen feet without having to stop and catch my breath. I can't drive in the snow. I can't socialize more than three times a week.

Words to Live By:

"Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world." - Walt Whitman
"What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." - Oscar Wilde
"When angry, count to four. When very angry, swear." - Mark Twain
"You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist." - Friedrich Nietzche
"Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? ...Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. ...And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson
